Bee a Friend

They give us honey. Without them no flower would be pollinated. They make it possible to grow and harvest our food. Thank you Apis mellifera. For information about urban beekeeping look at http://www.theurbanbeehive.com.au http://www.thebeevangelist.com.au
Sunday Hot Music, Albion, Brisbane, Australia

Hot Sunday Club every Sunday afternoon at the Wandering Cooks in Westend Brisbane brings a sense of happiness and joy to all who walk or dance through the doors. You don’t have to dance, you can just sit and listen to the wonderful swing and old school jazz that is played with gusto and engagement. It is a must if you find yourself in Brisbane any Sunday of the year.
Sadly, this club came to an end in 2019. It was a combination of outrageous urban inner city over development and Covid that saw this joyful event come to a close.
Angels’ food

Watermelons are stacked high and await our greedy hands to grab them and take them home to devour with great haste.”When one has tasted watermelon he knows what the angels eat.” Mark Twain
I love Summer. Enjoy every moment of it…it is gone too soon.Enter a caption
Ode to Bill Eggleston

One day I had a revelation when I discovered the photographic work of Bill Eggleston, an American photographer. He possess an eye and a sensibility which gleams beauty in every corner of one’s ordinary world. His work is truly significant. I thank him.
A simple still life

In July 2010 Shiftazine shifted its world view and spent the month in the ancient lands of Crete. The Sun and the water were constant in their gifts of beauty.
But what I really loved the most in spending time there was the opportunity to observe the motion of the astral bodies_ the Sun, the Moon and the stars. It sounds glib but these are our orginial and formative wonderments.
When you are immersed in the urban landscape you become detached from these heavenly bodies_these things of beauty, of dreams, of joy.
On the side of the animal

“We’re always on the side of the animal that’s being chased. We always seem to be on the side of the rabbit or the fox and not on the side of the hounds.”
These pretty things were found in the shop window of Ici et La. Surry Hills, Sydney, Australia.
Ugly Beautiful

Just like magic: old becomes new again

At first Garage Sale Trail was just in Sydney Inner city areas. Newtown, Surry Hills, Redfern etc, but over the past 10 – 15 years it has grown to be held in cities all over Australia.
How wonderful! A win win idea where people sell stuff they no longer want to people who are looking for a bargain and get to wonder are neighbourhoods, meeting people and being able to upcycle things that would have ended up in land fill otherwise. LOVE IT!!!!!
Don’t run from colour

Of late there has been a steady emergence of fluoro coloured bags, shoes, nail polish, sunglasses peppering the city streets. These toes were my friend Fran’s .
I like it.
Brisbane Eat Street Markets: A must when you are in town.

Take some unused shipping containers, place them in an unused dockland right in the middle of a thriving city, add food, music and lights and the rest comes of its own accord. With more than 50 shipping containers specially reconfigured as mini-restaurants, bars, galleries and produce stores, the markets aim to recreate the ambiance of a South-East Asian night market.
